hit area of Bantul district, south of Yogyakarta in Central Java, Indonesia on Saturday, 27 May 2006. .With aftershocks continuing
and people still traumatized by the quake over one week ago, many are opting to stay outdoors for fears of being hit by further
collapsing debris, even some whose houses were scarcely damaged in the disaster. The government has promised to give financial
assistance to survivors for rebuilding, pledging up to 30 million rupiah (3,260 US dollars) for survivors whose house was
totally flattened by the quake, and 20 million rupiah (2,175 US dollars) for heavily damaged homes. Aid workers continued
to supply emergency relief to hundreds of thousands of people forced from their homes by the quake, which left over 6,200
dead and 50,000 injured.
